Let’s Explore – Layers and Scraps

Layers and scraps… and holes… the basis of exploratory textile work. What can we discover today?

Let’s try using organza, netting, tissue paper, tracing paper or gauze to create layers. Get out those scraps and create a background for a new piece of work. You could even swap some of those scraps with other people!

Feel free to work on your own projects if you prefer.

What to bring

• All the usual sewing gear, scissors, needles, threads etc
• Sheer fabrics e.g. coloured and plain organza, gauze, coloured and plain lutradur
• Netting/tulle, lace, lace curtains
• Tracing paper, tissue paper, old paper patterns
• Fabric and paper scraps
• Drawings, images and/or prints e.g. gelli plate prints, sun prints
• Your lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby), tea and/or coffee and a mug
