Our final Monthly Gathering for 2024 for both North and South Groups is Monday 9 December (instead of the usual Third Monday). South Group is meeting at its usual time of 10.30 am – for full details see the gathering event page. North Group is meeting at The Ducks, Rosevears, for its end of year function.
If you can’t attend our gatherings regularly, you can always stay up to date with members’ work by keeping an eye on our gallery. Here’s what was shared in November.
The Southern Group has decided to collect non-perishable food items to donate to City Mission at this gathering. Please bring whatever you can and group members will deliver it on that day to City Mission.
The Northern Group reports:
“Our Monday November Meeting – the last for 2024 – was a fun day exploring embossing techniques on various mediums using an embossing machine usually employed in card-making, as well as various hand embossing tools for mark making. Use of the sewing machine to punch for stitching was also fun. Our member Lynne Hargreaves led the day and we were guided by her in the ways of metal, aluminium in particular, which could be annealed over the gas hob, embossed, pierced and then embellished. We discovered many ways to stitch, colour and attach. We looked at the use of metal on textiles and the range of materials both new and repurposed which could be embossed. Photographs from the event are in the Gallery.
On Saturday 30 November, six of our members have entered The Foreshore Art Competition, an en plein air creative exploration organised by The Chef’s Catch at Beauty Point. Textiles will be mixing it with the more traditional visual art mediums 9am – 4pm along the Esplanade in front of this well-known eatery to design and produce works to be hung for judging on the day. We are hoping for good weather and little sea breeze!
Our last outing is our end of year function to be held 9th December at The Ducks, Rosevears, then we resume 21 January 2025. Wishing you all a happy, safe and peaceful festive season.”
