We thoroughly enjoyed our July meetings. Members in the south popped in and out for another extended meeting time from 9am to 1pm, with show and tell at 10.30 am. We had an excellent selection of embroidery materials to choose from, decorated fabrics by several members who attended Mahdi Chandler’s recent Procion dyeing workshop at Bellerive Community Arts Centre, books on lace-making techniques, new artworks and experiences to share.
The Northern Group had an interesting time examining the behaviour of heat-bondable angelina fibres and the role that they could play in stitching. The use of a crafter’s soldering iron to cut and carve fabric was also demonstrated together with heat-distressed fabrics. A member shared some excellent books from her personal library and members avidly examined those relating to bondable fibres and dissolvable fabrics and stabilisers.
