Let’s Explore – Kawandi.

Our next “Let’s Explore” day, scheduled for Sunday, May 5th.

In India, ‘Kawandi’ means quilt. It is a technique developed by the Siddis, an African community brought to India more than 800 years ago. It is made with recycled materials, entirely by hand. The process is engaging, creative, relaxed and sustainable. It is an interesting visual example of repetitive stitching, a technique that is used to great effect in modern stitching. Inspiration and materials list are provided here.

Let’s Explore days are held at the Kingborough Women’s Clubrooms, Kingston Beach, from 10am – 3pm. You are always welcome to work on your own project at our Let’s Explore gatherings or try new techniques and materials with the group.

Let’s Explore images for the April gathering are here.

For those not familiar with our Explore Days, details are available here. (this page also contains a handy list of dates for the year).
