Let’s Explore … Creative Stitch Techniques: At our next Let’s Explore Day on 16 October we will be exploring creative stitch techniques. Come along with your favourite threads and ideas to try and enjoy a creative day chatting with like-minded textile lovers! There’s lots of room at the Kingston Women’s Club Rooms, always lots of discussion and great company.
Members recently enjoyed a day of chatting and playing with coiled and stitched basketry. A big thanks to Josephine for inspiring us with her colourful, quirky vessels! Judy is one of our members who took part in the fun exploratory day. Here’s what she had to say:
Our “Lets Explore … Basketry” day saw us all gathered around one very large table making for a most convivial time as we chatted and admired Josephine’s many visually seductive vessels and containers. And of course, we stitched. Many, many thanks to Josephine for so generously showing us her techniques and for her cheerful and clear instruction. We all readily and enthusiastically chose to try creating our own. We are well underway with our ‘coiling and stitching’ using our own choices of fabric strips and threads in the colours we fancy – even golds – and look forward to the colourful end results. It was great to see how the technique could be extended to trivets and coasters and even sculptural creations. A most satisfying day!”
