Printmaking using Botany, Stencil and Stitching
July 9 2022 @ 10:00 AM - July 10 2022 @ 4:00 PM
$180.00Deborah Wace, a printmaker with 20 years’ experience, creates intimate direct prints from the flora of Tasmania and large-scale dry-point etchings and fabric designs based on Tasmania’s native botany. She has recently completed a Churchill Fellowship to Europe, researching the Tasmanian botanical collections made by early French explorers to develop new designs for fabric production from Tasmanian Flora.
In this intimate 7-person workshop, you will experience a stimulating environment in which to creatively explore mono-print and mark making techniques for printing on paper, using found, botanical and hand-cut stencils. You will explore ways to incorporate stitching by machine or by hand into the printed work. To bring your own interest into the story of the stencil elements, you will be encouraged to write some poetry, a story or some words to incorporate into the print or in stitch. Deborah will provide guided discussion, explaining key concepts to the processes involved in printmaking whilst you create new artwork and gather skills. Mono-printing is one of the most painterly, direct and exciting printmaking techniques.
You will get a lot done during this workshop with access to two printing presses, using some of Deborah’s printed fabric offcuts and your own sewing machine or hand stitching kit. You will also learn printing methods to use easily at home without a press.
