Groups’ News:
Northeast group (St Marys) report – a fun day!
From Sherrie: The Northeast Group (St Marys/Campbell Town) continued to experiment with Gelli Plates, playing with stencils, dry brush techniques, stamps and applying variously shaped masks made from sheets of paper. We used these processes with different coloured media to try out composition studies including some very successful landscapes. We also celebrated Barbara’s birthday, and heard from Rita about her use of natural dyes and pigments in her work.
Northern group (Riverside) report
Rowena writes: The Opening of Northern Group’s Exhibition Studio 7 : Contemporary Textiles at Woolmers on June 7 was wonderful : attended by around 50 including our President Gay McKinnon who travelled up from Hobart to support us. Open throughout the winter months, the installation is in the Rose Cafe so you can wander in and enjoy a cuppa and a snack while you peruse. Free 8am – 10am, your $10 admission after 10am gives you the Unbound Exhibition as well. Well worth a visit.
Our monthly meetings are a bit informal through Winter as members are busy Wednesdays and Sundays demonstrating and giving artist talks while the Exhibition is up.
Northern Group has also been invited to participate in Launceston Library’s “Winter Warmers” activities. Members are hosting a slow stitching activity. Fully booked, we are excited to share basic techniques with library participants. Please see the poster; there is a link to the Library’s website with further details. This has come about through the Library regularly hosting the annual Challenge exhibition.
Northwest group (Penguin) report
From Stephanie: The North West Group met again this month with members sharing an extensive range of current work. We also shared more skills and techniques with gel plate printing. Plans for a visit to the Northern group exhibition were discussed with members sharing progress with their work for inclusion in the annual Stitching and Beyond annual challenge . We will continue to meet in Penguin on the 4th Wednesday each month. Please contact Stephanie for more details.
