Our next gathering is Monday November 15.
Gatherings on the first Thursday evening of the month are evolving into a richness of sharing of different textile skills and art experiences over a comfortable chat, easily filling two hours at the Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms at Kingston Beach, 6.30 – 8.30.
This month we saw many different interests, and be assured, it’s fine to simply join in with a relaxing chat if you don’t want to stitch away!
We were fascinated by the punch needle work, from Carol’s Hundertwasser-inspired and brilliantly coloured rug punching to Ros’s unbelievably fine Igolochkoy russian punch needle embroidery that she plans to ultimately use in jewellery. It was so interesting to see the same basic technique executed at opposite ends of the scale in dimension.
There was some pojagi stitching using hand printed silk organza, and Ursula’s further embellishment of her journal that she constructed in Joy Allison’s inspiring Journey Bound class post-Covid in 2020.
Discussion of favourite sewing tools/indulgences, the vast range of thread thicknesses and finishes for machine work, news about what’s on, but most of all, a warm welcome to someone who’s been a silent member for many years and who decided to make this meeting her first.
You can see images of the shared work from the Thursday gathering in our Gallery.
A members-only Play Day is scheduled for Sunday December 5 when we plan to explore effects in embedding and embellishing textiles. Members please check the event listing for full details and a list of what to bring.
