Both northern and southern groups of Stitching and Beyond met on Monday 16th September for our regular monthly ‘stitch-in’. The Northern Group had some lively discussion about the importance of setting goals in our individual artistic practice and the role of our artists’ journals in that, the exposure of textile art in our area and how we as part of SandB can influence this, and the subsequent canvasing of opportunities to show our art. One very important issue also discussed was the respect for member’s intellectual property and the critical concept of influence beyond instruction – copying, to put it bluntly. All this in between stitching and copious cups of tea.
We have four members who have been out in it in August – September: Jan Charlton and Marilyn Thiesel opened September 11th at the AMC space in the UTas Alumni exhibition, Lynne Hargreaves has just finished exhibiting at Island Quilts in Hobart and is now at Government House, and Mignon Mitchell opens Saturday 21st Sept in the Centreway Arcade in Launceston. Please check out their individual pages on Instagram. More coming next month too!
At the moment, the Northern Group is FULL – sadly, there’s no more room in the shed! We are aware of potential members so if you feel you could start up another group, please have a chat to Chris Hussey. It’s easy and we can help.
