Gel Plate printing is indeed the “thing”. In keeping with this interest, both Northern and Southern members enjoyed a exploration of design, colour and technique using gel plates under the tutelage of our own – Mignon and Ursula – this month. Their demonstration of the possibilities of the gel plate, its versatility and foibles allowed members attending to use various materials, stencils, found objects and flora to learn about paint application, pulling ghost prints, final prints – can they ever be! -as well as combining and repeating prints. We had a great day and it was hard to stop and pack up. The Northern group intends to repeat the exercise later in the year and take their mono-printing journey further to combine collage, print and stitch.
