October Gathering (Thursday evening)
October 7 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Stitching and Beyond’s previous Thursday Evening Group gained a wonderful reputation for conversation, friendship and shared enjoyment of textiles. It was in Covid quarantine for a while but has now emerged from lockdown with a new venue, the very comfortable Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms in Kingston Beach.
Our first Thursday evening gathering in September was a resounding success, so do come along and join us! Those interested in joining our group are also welcome!
We will meet regularly on the first Thursday evening of each month, 6.30 – 8.30pm. The evenings will be like the Monday morning gatherings, a time for sharing of projects, discoveries, exhibition reports, books, anything textile related (or not!), questions, whatever happens really – participants make it what they will.
At this stage we plan for a quarterly Sunday ‘play day’ at the Colour Circle in Mount Nelson, sharing exploration of a nominated technique. Stay tuned to our website for details.
See you Thursday evening 6:30pm, 7 October.
Please remember to check in at the door.
This Thursday we have a guest joining us – Joan Winter of Baboa Gallery, Brisbane.
Joan is a volunteer curator for the Omie Cultural Business Inc, a community based group working with artists from seven Omie villages in Oro Province, PNG. The artists’ specialty is the ancient art of tapa cloth.
Joan will tell us about her work with the Omie people, the making of tapa and show us samples of their work. You can find out more about the Omie Cultural Business group on their website and Facebook page.
