Found and Gathered with Seth Apter
March 25 2024 @ 10:00 AM - March 28 2024 @ 4:30 PM$375.00
Seth Apter is a mixed media artist, instructor, author and designer from New York City. He came to the world of art later in life, transitioning from a full-time career as a psychologist to being a full-time artist and maker. His artistic practice is based on the concepts of community and collaboration, and he believes in the power of art to bring people together.
Seth’s work is all about building layers and creating a meaningful history by integrating paper, paint and inks, fabric, hand stitching, and both personal and found objects. The core elements are typically abstract, textural, grungy and distressed, colourfully muted, deeply layered and filled with text (used both as a design element and an expression of meaning).
Found and Gathered
In this workshop we will explore creating mixed media layers through collaging with paper and fabric, hand stitching, painting, inking and rusting, surface building, embossing, book binding, mark making and so much more! We will gather inside creating our pages, as well as explore outside, seeking found objects to use from nature.
This all comes together in the form of a series of mixed media booklets that, when stacked together, express your own personal artist voice. The project can be very personal to your own experiences or you can simply make an unthemed, kick-ass artist book!
