Eco dyeing with Linda Chee in Franklin

June 18 2022 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

You are invited to a workshop in Linda Chee’s own studio, surrounded by her creativity and looking out over magical vistas of the Huon River.

Linda is a Eucalyptus dye specialist who works with protein-based fibres such as wool, silk, cashmere and alpaca.

The day begins exploring Linda’s background and why she chooses to be a Eucalyptus specialist. Following, you will be given a pair of wool socks with which you will explore the keystone knowledge to dye successfully using Tasmanian Eucalypts. You will also create a small piece of jewellery using dyed remnants and hand stitching.

During the workshop you will consider design, placement, mordants, effects of pot and core used which affects the results.

Throughout the day, discussion and questions are addressed as you document ideas and learning. 35 years of teaching means you will be kept busy all day. Linda recognises that each person learns in their own way.  It’s about being “hands on”, having fun and going home with your own creation.

Linda provides a delicious morning tea. Then later, while all your socks are patterning in the dye baths, we wander off for lunch in Franklin and Linda keeps a careful tutor’s eye on what is happening as the fibres and leaves do their magic in the pots. On return you extend your learning.

And there’s afternoon tea….

The shop will be open at the end of the workshop in case you want to take home a hand dyed treasure (cards accepted).

A delightful opportunity to learn so much!
