SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Embellishing by machine or hand
DESCRIPTION:Let’s try exploring hand and machine embellishing together. \nEmbellishers are also known as felting machines and they work using barbed needles to ‘felt’ fabrics and fibres into a base fabric. \nYou can create interesting coloured and textured surfaces to use on their own\, or as a base for free-motion embroidery; add texture to wool fabrics\, decorate textile surfaces… let your imagination run! \nThose of us with embellishers will bring our machines to share the potential of the embellishing machine. If you have one languishing in the cupboard\, time to dust it off and bring it along and give it an airing. \nEqually\, if you prefer to work by hand\, Nicola and others can set you on that path. \n\nInspiration \n\n\nWhat to bring \n\na firm piece of fabric eg calico\, light weight canvas\nsoft things to embellish with\, such as wool tops\, lace\, chiffon\, fine silks…\na hand embellisher (or needle-felting tool) if you have one and that’s what you want to explore\nspare needles for your embellishing machine or hand tool\nyour usual collection of sewing kit\, scissors\, notebook etc…\nyour sense of adventure!\nyour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\nApril 12 (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Easter Sunday)\nMay 3\nJune  7\nJuly  5\nAugust  2\nSeptember  6\nOctober  4\nNovember  8 (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Tasmanian Craft Fair – Deloraine)\nDecember  6\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Maximising the Cabochon Effect
DESCRIPTION:Cabochons are those very exotic pieces of glass that inspire images of the Middle East and other exotic places in history. \nWith Pauline’s guidance we will create an encrusted cabochon with stitch and seed beads (no glue!) \nYou will be shown how to bead around a cabochon without glueing – the beads will hold it in place. You can then expand on this to make a pendant or brooch. \nPauline will provide the base silk fabric\, stabilised with iron-on interfacing\, in various colours to choose from. \n  \n\nWhat to bring \n\nA flat gemstone cabochon (i.e. amethyst/agate) approx. 3.5 – 5 cm\, as close to an oval as possible – it must be flat (see the image below) Pauline will have a few for sale\n\n \n\nBugle beads and seed beads in your colour choice – also a few small feature beads\nMatching thread and a needle small enough to go through the beads\nA small pair of scissors\nYour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\nMarch 1 – Embellishing by machine or hand\nApril  12 (Note\, April 5 is Easter)\nMay 3\nJune  7\nJuly  5\nAugust  2\nSeptember  6\nOctober  4\nNovember  8\nDecember  6\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.

SUMMARY:Fusion - Combining Paper & Fiber with Eszter Bornemisza
DESCRIPTION:Eszter Bornemisza is a fiber artist based in Budapest\, Hungary\, with a background as a mathematician. Holding a PhD in mathematical statistics\, she worked as a researcher for two decades before transitioning to fiber arts in the mid-1990s. Eszter’s artistic practice is defined by the creation of large-scale\, transparent fiber works\, 3D objects and installations\, often crafted from everyday materials like waste newspaper and cloth. Her primary technique involves machine stitching with elements of printing\, dyeing and painting. She often creates large sized\, unwearable garments by reconstructing vintage\, disassembled clothing\, reimagining them as new\, cohesive entities that carry altered messages and evoke fresh interpretations. \nCentral to Eszter’s work is the exploration of urban life\, with a particular focus on city maps and their representation of both physical and spiritual spaces. For over twenty years\, she has been captivated by the structure of urban plans\, distorting\, layering\, and reinterpreting them as a way to explore the complex relationship between individuals and the cities they inhabit. Eszter’s fragmented\, often distorted city maps are absorbed with traces of the past and present\, blending ancient pathways with modern grids of highways\, metro lines\, and streets. These works reflect the tension between personal identity and the often-overwhelming forces of urban existence. For her\, the city maps serve as metaphors for a journey of self-discovery\, with labyrinthine layouts and dead-ends symbolising the search for mental and spiritual balance. \nExperimentation and research are central to her creative process\, and the resulting pieces evoke both the complexity and challenges of navigating contemporary life. \nEszter’s work has been exhibited extensively across Europe\, the Americas\, Australia\, China and Japan\, in both solo and juried shows. She has received multiple awards for her innovative approach to fiber art\, establishing herself as a significant figure in the international art community. \nhttps://bornemisza.com \n\n\nWorkshop Overview\nThis workshop explores a wide range of techniques for fusing paper with textiles. Participants will experiment with various types of paper—including tissue paper\, mulberry paper\, newsprint\, computer prints and paper pulp—and apply them to fabrics with different textures. \nThrough cutting\, tearing and stitching into grids\, students will begin to develop their own visual language. The focus will be on creating open\, translucent samples by manipulating meshes and using everyday\, off-the-shelf materials\, allowing students to repurpose and revitalise old or discarded artworks. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own prints and sketches to create sample pieces. These fragments will be layered and assembled into expressive collages that reflect personal associations and feelings about the living environment. \n\nInspiration from Eszter\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nA full list of requirements will be sent to each participant prior to the workshop\n\nPlease note:\n\nWorkshop bookings are subject to our refund policy\nTickets on sale 8am Sunday 24 August\n\nFinding and Parking at Moonah Arts Centre \n\nIf you are not currently a financial member of Stitching and Beyond\, you can join us\, pay the membership fee and then login to purchase your ticket.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Yarn Dyeing
DESCRIPTION:Sally knows all about dyeing yarns and has generously agreed to inspire you to create your own yarns. It is rather fun to have some of your own uniquely coloured threads on hand to use on a whim! I am all too aware we are using dye!! Please consider wearing  older clothes. \nIn preparation\, please collect every variety of yarn you can find –  op shops are often a good source. Swapping with others on the day may add to your variety. Collect a variety (in skein or ball form) – cotton\, bamboo\, rayon of different plys\, textures etc – mostly white but feel free to experiment with ecru or other pale shades to over-dye if you wish. Do not prepare them in any way before the day. \nThere will be a $4 charge on the day to cover consumables such as dye\, chemicals and printed notes for all who attend. \n\nInspiration \n\n\nWhat to bring \n\nWinding\n\nPiece of cardboard\, 50cm long (and at least 15cm wide for stability)\nScissors\nOptional: yarn swift\n** we can also “buddy up” and use a helper to hold the yarn\, or use a chair or similar object to wrap yarn around\n\n\nDyeing\n\nCellulose yarn skein/s (e.g. 100g of cotton yarn)\nPlastic measuring spoons and cups (metric)\nPlastic or stainless steel containers (for soaking and dyeing\, 2–5 litre capacity)\nStirring utensil (plastic or stainless steel)\nPlastic wrap or resealable bags (optional\, for batch dyeing)\nScales (accurate to 0.1g for measuring dye and chemicals)\nTimer (optional)\nA sheet of plastic or an opened out garbage bag to cover your table space plus an old towel (bath towel size)\nDust mask and gloves (for safety when handling dye powder)\nApron\nHand towel for hands and possible spillages\nKitty litter trays for taking goodies home\n\n\n$4 to cover dyes and chemicals\nYour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nAnd…. please don’t go and buy dye scales or timer if you don’t have them already. SUMMARY:A Sense of Place with Judith Burns
DESCRIPTION:Judith Burns is a City and Guilds-trained textile designer and embroiderer\, who makes textile art on Anaiwan and Gumbaynggir country in northern NSW. Her recent work focuses on ways to interpret and communicate geographical ideas through stitched textiles. An academic geographer\, she has worked with First Nations communities around the Baaka/Darling River in western NSW for over thirty years\, and the people-place connections she has been privileged to observe are a strong influence on her work. \nHer studio practice is varied; current work involves interpreting place through dyeing\, printing\, layering and stitching translucent fabrics. She uses free motion machine embroidery to re-create landscapes\, finding it liberating to use her machine “like a pencil or a paintbrush”\, freely interpreting large scale features and surface textures. \n\nWorkshop Overview\nThis workshop will highlight some of Judith’s techniques. Students will learn how to interpret a landscape to evoke a sense of connection using layered dyed organza and stitch. You will use photographs that you have brought of your special place (a natural environment is good but we can work with an urban landscape if you prefer) to design a work that interprets your sense of place. \nGuided exercises in brainstorming the things that make the place special\, laying out the work as a whole and selecting colours from a range of supplied dyed organza to a colour scheme you design (with the opportunity to dye a few additional colours yourself) will give you the concepts and materials you need to move to the next step. You will cut\, layer and fuse your dyed fabrics to form a ‘sandwich’ background. \nMark making in your sketchbook will lead to stitch sampling (free motion\, hand stitching or a combination of both) to explore and represent surface textures at different scales\, and then to working into the background with stitch to interpret the marks. \nThe end result will be a wall piece which communicates the meaning of a place you love. \n\nInspiration from Judith\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nA full list of requirements will be sent to each participant prior to the workshop\nNote that some materials are included as part of the cost of the workshop\n\nPlease note:\n\nWorkshop bookings are subject to our refund policy\n\nHow to find the Colour Circle Studio \n\nIf you are not currently a financial member of Stitching and Beyond\, you can join us\, pay the membership fee and then login to purchase your ticket.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Embellishing by machine or hand
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we want to try exploring hand and machine embellishing together – discover the “what ifs” of life\, rather than have one person lead us through. \nEmbellishers are also known as felting machines and they work using barbed needles to ‘felt’ fabrics and fibres into a base fabric. \nYou can create interesting coloured and textured surfaces to use on their own\, or as a base for free-motion embroidery; add texture to on wool fabrics\, decorate textile surfaces… let your imagination run! \nThose of us with embellishers will bring our machines to share the potential of the embellishing machine. If you have an embellishing machine languishing in the cupboard\, time to dust it off and bring it along and give it an airing. Equally\, if you prefer to work by hand\, Nicola and others can set you on that path. \n\nInspiration \n\n\nWhat to bring \n\na firm piece of fabric eg calico\, light weight canvas\nsoft things to embellish with\, such as wool tops\, lace\, chiffon\, fine silks…\na hand embellisher (or needle-felting tool) if you have one and that’s what you want to explore\nspare needles for your embellishing machine or hand tool\nyour usual collection of sewing kit\, scissors\, notebook etc…\nyour sense of adventure!\nyour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\n5 October – Social Stitch Day\n9 November – Dyeing threads (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Tasmanian Craft Fair – Deloraine)\n7 December – Maximising the cabochon effect with stitch and no glue!\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.

SUMMARY:Landscape Fragments with Julia Wright
DESCRIPTION:Julia Wright trained in Applied Design at Edinburgh College of Art and has been teaching textiles and exhibiting for over 25 years in the UK and internationally. \nNow based in Manchester\, England\, her textural mixed media textile pieces suggest fragments of landscape without being figurative. Work is inspired by weathered\, organic\, irregular forms and the repetition of simple shapes\, like clusters of barnacles\, knotted tree roots and growth patterns of lichen. \nYou can connect with Julia on Instagram or Facebook. \nwww.juliawright.co.uk \n\nLandscape Fragments workshop\nStudents will experiment with textiles materials and techniques including wrapping and binding\, couching\, entrapment and embroidery to create colourful\, textural\, mixed media pieces. We will pinch\, pull\, bind\, gather\, layer\, stitch and explore manipulation techniques to create texture. We will take inspiration from close-up details seen in landscapes and coastal areas interpreting shapes\, patterns\, textures and colours to create a series of small fabric samples which could remain as a collection of separate objects or be combined to make a more resolved piece. No previous experience is needed\, all techniques will be demonstrated and multiple examples will be available for inspiration. \n\nInspiration from Julia\n\n\nWhat to bring:\nStudents should bring fabrics and threads in their chosen colour palette. Recycling and re-purposing found fabrics\, off-cuts\, yarns and threads is very much encouraged. Eg- distressed/worn/torn fabrics\, cut up old clothes\, bedsheets\, tea towels\, scraps of string/twine/yarns\, tangled left-overs \nResource packs of pre-dyed mixed fabrics will be available to buy at the event if required \nAll participants will need: \n\n2-3 reels of sewing machine threads to suit their chosen colour palette\nhand sewing needles (including an embroidery needle)\nscissors\na small piece of wadding/old cushion stuffing (as small as 10cm x 10cm would be plenty)\ndelicate fabric scraps (silk\, muslin\, scrim\, ramie\, organdie\, thin linen)\nembroidery threads\n\nPlease note:\n\nWorkshop bookings are subject to our refund policy\nFinding and Parking at Moonah Arts Centre\n\n\nIf you are not currently a financial member of Stitching and Beyond\, you can join us\, pay the membership fee and then login to purchase your ticket.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Machine Embroidery
DESCRIPTION:There’s been lots of requests to explore this wonderful skill that has endless possibilities. Again\, no single tutor\, but several members on hand (with a large book collection) to help guide the exploration of basic skills. \nThis is an experimentation/practice day to introduce free machining\, not a project day. The plan is to further extend free machining skills one Sunday early in 2026\, and then quite possibly to contract a highly skilled tutor to run a 3 day workshop down the track. The skills to practise can range from simply gaining control over the beast when you drop the feed dogs\, to exploring texture and design as you become more competent. \n We are not digitising. This is free machining.  \n\nInspiration  \n\nIrene Manion and Deb Campbell introduced some basics in recent Stitching and Beyond workshops. Use Google to explore work by these artists and many\, many others.\nGoogle videos by Dionne Swift for example.\nCheck out Pinterest\, but don’t go down too many rabbit holes!!\nOr work on whatever takes your fancy!!\n\n\nWhat to bring \n\nThreads!! Don’t buy extra for this experimentation day but possibilities include cotton\, rayon\, polyester threads in various colours\, including light and dark\, black\, white and grey.  Variegated and metallic if you already own these. Easiest to organise if you choose within a colour palette that you enjoy working with e.g. monochromatic\, white through to black. You should find something with which you feel comfortable among these suggestions that Irene Manion made\, although your choices may be limited by your stash! e.g. Turquoise and brown\, turquoise and purple\, cool blue and yellow\, warm blues with greys\, pink and green. The colours can be contrasting or harmonious. Matching variegated threads will work well and include these if you have them in your stash.\nSome people choose to wear safety glasses when machine embroidering.\nYou can choose to use calico in a fairly large hoop (the inner ring bound with calico)\, OR prepare some A4 pieces of plain white cotton or calico fused together to make a stable surface OR fuse some wadding to calico or cotton sheeting to give a stable surface.\nYour usual collection of scissors\, notebook etc…\nOr work on whatever takes your fancy!\nYour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\n14 September – Embellishing by machine or hand (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Father’s Day)\n5 October – Social Stitch Day\n9 November – Dyeing threads (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Tasmanian Craft Fair – Deloraine)\n7 December – Maximising the cabochon effect with stitch and no glue!\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Kawandi
DESCRIPTION:What is Kawandi? \nIn India\, ‘Kawandi’ means quilt. It is a technique developed by the Siddis\, an African community brought to India more than 800 years ago. It is made with recycled materials\, entirely by hand. The process is engaging\, creative\, relaxed and sustainable. It is an interesting visual example of repetitive stitching\, a technique that is used to great effect in modern stitching. \nExploring Kawandi \nWe will start a small sample quilt (around 50cm wide) in order to get the hang of the technique. It could be a short table runner\, table mat\, or cushion cover size. By making a sample size on the day\, you will be able to consider a few things before attempting a larger quilt. \nThe most important thing is that both backing fabric and wadding are thin for ease of stitching. This allows for having to sew through 4 thicknesses of fabric. Soft\, drapey\, aged or even slightly worn backing fabrics are best. The backing needs to be 3-5cm larger all around than the wadding. \nPlease bring plenty of light weight cotton fabric scraps from your stash or suitable lightweight recycled fabrics! \nWe will start off stitching scraps onto the folded border and upon completion of the first row all the way around\, will insert the wadding close to the first row of stitches. \n \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nInspiration \nLisa will be leading our exploration into Kawandi this month. She has recommended some YouTube resources to inspire you. Lisa particularly recommends the one by Kieren Dutcher. \n\nWorks Created by Margaret Fabrizio in 2022 (atree3)\nMake a Kawandi Quilt (Kieren Dutcher)\nKawandi – Techniques & Tips for Your First Quilt (Marion’s World)\nReviving the Art of Siddi Quilts (30 Stades)\n\n\nWhat to bring \nWe have provided a list of materials to consider bringing.  No need to purchase fabrics – just bring what you already have in your stash! \n\nDownload the list – Exploring Kawandi\nYour lunch. SUMMARY:Sculptural Textile Art with Priscilla Edwards
DESCRIPTION:Priscilla Edwards began creating sculptural textiles while studying embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University during the 1990’s. It was here she was encouraged to nurture her love of found materials and transform the lost and overlooked into arresting works of art. \nOver the past 20 years Priscilla has developed a unique range of manipulation methods using hand and machine stitching combined with wire\, fabric\, wax and found objects to create pieces full of whit and charm. These charming\, yet slightly dark\, fairytale-like sculptures transcend the familiar qualities of the original materials and capture Priscilla’s perceptions of beauty\, fragility and intrigue. Once drawn into her enchanting world of afternoon tea\, angelic angels and faux flora it’s hard not to be captivated by Priscilla’s inquisitive imagination. \nPriscilla’s beautifully illustrated book ‘Sculptural Textile Art’ was published by Search Press in 2022 exploring her wealth of techniques and processes. This stunning step by step guide shares Priscilla’s approach to creating sculptural textiles and is the perfect inspiration for anyone wanting to develop ideas in new and exciting ways. \nwww.priscillaedwards.co.uk \n\nSculptural Textile Art workshop\nExplore the extraordinary possibilities of working with lightweight wire to create small-scale sculptures that incorporate found materials. Priscilla will share her unique combination of creative techniques showing you how to shape wire by using pliers and fingertip manipulation to make a structure. Priscilla will then explore the process of applying layers of silk and wax to your pieces – these can then be embellished by adding stitching\, touches of paper\, paint\, buttons\, broken jewellery\, beads and anything else you may like to add. \nAs the sculptures develop you will see their distinct characters unfolding and becoming your own creations. Repurposing materials is hugely rewarding as it allows you to use fragments of precious fabrics and treasures in your stash producing an original piece that is totally personal and unique to you. \nThis workshop is aimed to inspire with lots of different techniques and processes so you can develop them in a way that fits in with your own practice. It would suit anyone who enjoys working in a three-dimensional way with mixed media techniques. Priscilla will bring lots of her own work and will talk you through how she puts pieces together; this provides the perfect insight into her own making and how she develops ideas. \nPlease feel free to bring any additional resources you wish to work with. Priscilla’s workshops always encourage you to develop personal pieces of work. \n\nInspiration from Priscilla\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nA full list of requirements will be emailed to participants prior to the workshop\n\nPlease note:\n\nWorkshop bookings are subject to our refund policy\n\nFinding and Parking at Moonah Arts Centre \n\nIf you are not currently a financial member of Stitching and Beyond\, you can join us\, pay the membership fee and then login to purchase your ticket.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Coasters\, cords\, buttons & beads
DESCRIPTION:We will be exploring the art of wet felting with Robyn Delaney.  Robyn will demonstrate some basic techniques to make small items such as coasters\, cords\, buttons and beads. These can be easily made with small amounts of wool tops or pre-felt. \nWhile coasters can be made for their own sake\, for Robyn they are usually a by-product of making samples for larger projects. They can be a way to hone colour choices or to learn how to make straight edges and square corners. \nFelted cords\, buttons and beads can be used on their own\, embellished with hand stitch or incorporated into other textile and fibre projects. \n\nInspiration \n\n\nWhat to bring \nWe have provided a list of materials to bring. Please don’t buy anything. Robyn will bring extras of most things. Just bring what you already have in your stash! \n\nA small amount of wool top/roving in the colours of your choice or what you have available.\nPlease don’t buy – Robyn will bring some of her stash for the price of a gold coin donation.\n2 square-ish pieces of bubble wrap. These don’t need to be larger than 40×40 cm each.\nA 20cm square card or paper with a dark outlined edge (your “template”) if you want to make coasters.\nA small old towel or two to put on your table and under the bubble wrap etc\, to keep the floor dry.\nA small amount of soap or detergent (there will be some to share).\nA small/medium container for the water/soap mix – eg a 1kg yogurt or ice-cream container.\nAn implement to transfer small amounts of soapy water to your project. This can be a plastic bottle with a few holes in the lid or a scrunched up plastic shopping bag.\nA thin pencil\, chopstick or thick piece of wire or similar to form or maintain a hole in any beads you make. Alternatively\, you can make them directly onto your new cord.\nIf you want to make lots of beads\, then a bowl with a lid to rattle the soft beads around would make them faster.\nYou could also bring some small pieces of thin silk or open weave cotton or other fibres to use as embellishments if you wanted to.\nYour lunch (there are also shops nearby if you prefer) Note: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\n\nAlternatively\, bring your choice of another project\n\n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\n6 April – Lift Your Art Supplies Game!\n4 May – Tasmanian Flora\n8 June – TBA\n6 July – Social Stitch Day\n3 August – TBA\n14 September – TBA (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Father’s Day)\n5 October – Social Stitch Day\n9 November – Dyeing Threads (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Tasmanian Craft Fair – Deloraine)\n7 December – TBA\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAnyone who is a financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.\n\n

SUMMARY:Beyond Print with Stitch - Gaye Nieuwenhof
DESCRIPTION:Gaye Nieuwenhof has been creating and exhibiting her work for many years along with teaching various techniques to help inspire others. Her inspiration is always the environment and although the imagery is abstract in nature\, that echo remains. The alchemy of materials and how they can be utilised to produce art has always fascinated her. This can come about in many forms and sees prosaic materials being used for purposes for which they were never intended. Texture\, tone and line always appear in her work which creates visual excitement. \nAs an artist and an educator\, Gaye strives to inspire and imbue her students with the passion for art. Combining various\, often unorthodox media to create unique pieces\, she assists all her students to develop their distinct artistic voice\, while understanding and appreciating the diversity of the world of art. \nwww.gayenieuwenhof.com \n\nWorkshop Overview\nIn this workshop we will be using gel plates and craft presses to create eco printed monotypes on both fabric and paper which we will then collage and stitch to complete the piece. \nUsing local flora to eco print images onto paper with the boiling method and/or the press method will introduce more surprises. Exciting processes and techniques will produce unique work. \nBe prepared to: \n\nprint onto fabric and paper on day one\nuse ink and stencils on day two\, along with starting to stitch\ncompleting one piece of work on either paper or fabric on day three.\n\n\nInspiration from Gaye\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nA full list of requirements will be sent to each participant prior to the workshop\n\nPlease note:\n\nWorkshop bookings are subject to our refund policy\n\nHow to find the Colour Circle Studio \n\nIf you are not currently a financial member of Stitching and Beyond\, you can join us\, pay the membership fee and then login to purchase your ticket.

SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Tsung Tse (Chinese Dragon Boat)
DESCRIPTION:This month Jen Westren will demonstrate how to make a Chinese Dragon Boat\, or Tsung-Tse.  These can be made into ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree\, or jewellery (e.g. necklace\, earrings) or strung together in different sizes to make colourful mobiles. \nThe Tsung-Tse is a symbol for the Dragon Boat Festival in China. It is originally the name of a food served during the festival made from rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. Dragon Boats were fashionable in the ancient courts as elaborate wrappings for important gifts. \n\nInspiration \n\nThread Head: Dragon Boats \nThe Dragon Boat Wrapped Holiday Ornament Tutorial – CraftSanity – A blog and podcast for those who love everything handmade \nCai Zong – Chinese String Art : 16 Steps (with Pictures) – Instructables \n\nWhat to bring \nWe have provided a list of materials to bring. SUMMARY:Let's Explore - Cyanotype Printing
DESCRIPTION:This month (assuming we don’t have rain!) we will be exploring cyanotype (commonly called blue printing). \nCyanotype is a photographic printing process using two chemicals (ferric ammonium and potassium ferricyanide) which react with UV light to produce a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings\, referred to as blueprints. \nWe will use botanical elements (leaves or grasses)\, stencils\, doilies or lace to create decorative prints. Even if the weather is cloudy\, the process will deliver amazing results! \nCopyright: Margaret Jones \nCopyright: Margaret Jones \nCopyright: Margaret Jones \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nWhat to bring \n\nrequirements list (courtesy of Margaret Jones)\nyour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\, tea and/or coffee and a mug\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\n1 December – Using transparent fabrics\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial Stitching and Beyond member who is also a member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.
