SUMMARY:Let's Explore - A Joining Technique
DESCRIPTION:Let’s add a clever joining technique to your toolbox! \nWe all admire Shirley’s skill with a needle and she has offered to share the clever way she joins her finished embroideries and patches. Remember that beautiful piece on the wall at the 2025 Out of Hand exhibition (pictured above)? \nIt’s a technique Shirley first saw in a book by Mary Sleigh. Those of us who know Shirley well can see how her work resonates with Mary’s artistry. \nMary writes: “I am a stitched textile artist\, maker\, tutor and author. Curiosity about people\, their culture\, practical skills and the marks they leave in their environment are a constant source of inspiration. Every place retains something of the people who live and work there. Finding those traces and connections are significant to my work. Much of the joy in what I create is in the actual making process\, allowing things to change through construction\, choosing and handling materials.” \nThis joining technique can be fine\, subtle and almost invisible or bold and colourful\, or anything in-between. \n\n\nInspiration \n\n\nWhat to bring \n\nneedles\nthread\na few pieces of fabric folded into squares (Shirley will undoubtedly have some spares)\nany other work you would like to get on with!\nyour lunch (or cash to purchase lunch nearby)\nNote: your membership provides tea\, green tea\, instant coffee\, milk and mugs\n\nHow to find Kingborough Women’s Club Rooms \n\nUpcoming Explore Days \n\nJuly  5\nAugust  2\nSeptember  6\nOctober  4\nNovember  8 (NOTE: 2nd Sunday due to Tasmanian Craft Fair – Deloraine)\nDecember  6\n\n\nHow to join KWC and attend our regular Explore Days \n\nAny financial member of the Kingborough Women’s Club (KWC) ($40 per annum) is welcome to join our monthly Let’s Explore Sundays at no extra cost.\n\n\nIf you aren’t already a KWC member you can apply here then scan or photograph your form and email it to sandbmemberships@gmail.com with “KWC Application” in the header.\nAlternatively\, you could bring the form with you on a Let’s Explore Sunday.\n\n\nOnce we reply to your email\, then please make payment directly to KWC.\nThe annual fee is $40 and is due 1 July each year.
