DESCRIPTION:Our biennial Out of Hand exhibition is on again this year with a wonderful collection of fibre\, paper and textile artworks created by the members of Stitching and Beyond. The exhibition is always exceptional with a curated collection of approximately 150 pieces of all shapes\, sizes\, textures and colours. You can expect to see 2D and 3D works and there is bound to be something of interest for everyone! \nThis year in the Sidespace Gallery\, we also have a display of exploratory\, experimental and incomplete works by members. Much of this work is inspired by the talented artists we contract to facilitate workshops for our members. \nOur Annual Challenge pieces from both 2020 (Emerge) and 2021 (Black and White + One) are also on show in the Sidespace. The Emerge collection will have just completed its travelling exhibition at select libraries and community galleries around the state. \nThese images showcase creations by some of our talented members….its just a little taste of the quality and diversity of work you can expect to see exhibited! \nRoz Wren\, Self portraitNight LifeCopyright: Nikki D’Emden\nWe warmly invite you to visit our very popular exhibition from September 24 and place a vote for your favourite artwork in the Viewer’s Choice Awards. Selected works will be for sale (EFTPOS available) and able to be collected from 3pm Monday 4 October. \nStitching and Beyond Inc. is a not-for-profit community art group encouraging and supporting those interested in fibre and textiles to grow their skills. Donations to our group are gratefully received at the exhibition. \n  \n\nMembers Note: Full submission details and entry form are accessible here. Deadline for entry is Monday 30 August.

SUMMARY:2021 Annual Challenge: Black and White + One
DESCRIPTION:Stitching and Beyond’s annual challenge is a “suitcase” exhibition with the theme each year decided by a members’ poll. The entries are two-dimensional\, A3 in size and portrait orientation\, with the choice of materials entirely up to each artist. \nThis year the theme is ‘Black and White + One’\, offering a very expansive scope indeed! \nThe 2021 ‘Black and White + One’ entries are on display (along with the returned 2020 challenge ‘Emerge’) at our Out of Hand biennial exhibition from 24 September to 4 October. Afterwards they will travel to regional galleries and libraries expressing an interest in hosting the exhibition. Keep an eye on this event notice\, as the travel schedule will be published when finalised. \n\nEntry to the challenge each year is free to financial members of Stitching and Beyond. Non-members are very welcome to join us by firstly paying Stitching and Beyond’s annual subscription. \n\n

SUMMARY:Hearts in the Lightbox
DESCRIPTION:Our 2021 Lightbox exhibit will be displayed in the Lightbox window space at Salamanca Arts Centre\, Hobart to publicise our Out of Hand exhibition\, held upstairs in the Long Gallery. \nThe concept for this year’s Lightbox display came about when Stitching and Beyond member\, Verna Stoneman\, showed us some beautiful hearts she had made after being inspired by Joy Hester’s Remember Me Exhibition at Heide Gallery\, Melbourne earlier this year. \nWe have reproduced heart images from the Hester Exhibition and Quilting Arts Magazine to inspire members to make some hearts for our display. \nCopyright: Joy HesterCopyright: Joy HesterCopyright: Quilting Arts\nWe encourage you to take a stroll down Salamanca Place from September 5 and stop at the Lightbox to enjoy the display!
