TMAG has re opened

What welcome news!

Members have especially recommended you schedule a visit to see Extinction Studies,  a twelve-month durational performance by Tasmanian artist Lucienne Rickard. It is quite extraordinary.

TMAG is delighted to announce that we will be able to welcome you back through our doors from Tuesday 23 June 2020.

Of course, things will look a little different, and while TMAG will remain free to enter, all visitors will need to book in advance to ensure their wellbeing and safety.

We’ll be introducing 2-hour time slots for all visitors at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm each day so there is plenty of time for you to enjoy your visit.

Our Visitor Services Officers also have something special planned for when you return, and will be sharing their favourite museum treasures through special pop-up interpretations in the galleries.

We’ll be opening our usual seasonal operating hours, Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

To find out more and to book your visit, please head to our website.

Life Drawing Live on SBS July 4

In an ambitious two-hour live-to-air special, Life Drawing Live hosted by Rove McManus, will bring together a group of amateur artists, including some special guests, to sketch live life models. They will be guided by some of the country’s leading experts in a series of drawing exercises as the models strike various poses, before attempting to capture a challenging final scene to create their own masterpieces. Viewers are asked to join in the fun by picking up their pencils, drawing along and submitting their sketches to the show. This is the nation’s largest ever art class: watch or draw along on Saturday 4 July at 8.30pm

Some excellent opportunities

I continue to be a little overwhelmed by all the opportunities for courses, virtual museum tours and more, and I am certain I am not alone. Do scroll back through recent editions to see if something appeals to you, or check these more recent offerings out.

Some members have really enjoyed Bobby Britnell’s online courses, and she is offering Line and Tone again, beginning 13 July . People from Joy Allison’s drawing classes may find this interesting.
